At its Supplier Conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah, L3 Communications Systems West awarded Modern Manufacturing and Engineering, Inc. its Supplier Excellence Award for 2016.

Less than 1% of L3’s suppliers qualify to receive this award. It recognizes suppliers who have been nominated and have met the criteria to receive the award. The criteria includes: a scorecard (quality and delivery) composite rating of 98 to 100, lead time or cost reduction, a minimum of 10 deliveries in the calendar year, AS9100, ISO9001, or an acceptable CSW supplier risk assessment score, subcontract administrator satisfaction, and supplier quality satisfaction.

L3 Communications is a prime contractor in aerospace systems. L3 is also a leading provider of a broad range of communication and electronic systems and products used on military and commercial platforms. Its customers include the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, US Government intelligence agencies, NASA, aerospace contractors, and commercial telecommunications and wireless customers.

MME Achieves Nadcap Accreditation for Special Processing

MME is pleased to announce that it has been accredited by the Performance Review Institute (PRI) for Nadcap special processing. Certified processes include conversion coating, passivation, paint, and dry film lubricant coatings.

Nadcap, (formerly NADCAP, the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) is a global cooperative accreditation program for aerospace engineering, defense, and related industries. Nadcap’s membership of “prime contractors” coordinate industry-wide standards for special processes and products. Through PRI, Nadcap provides independent certification of manufacturing processes throughout the supply chain.

PRI’s mission is to be a “global provider of customer focused solutions designed to improve process and product quality by adding value, reducing total cost and promoting collaboration among stakeholders in industries where safety and quality are shared goals.”

With this new accreditation, MME has reinforced its dedication to providing even higher quality  in its processes and products to its customers.

Nancy Lien Berndt Named President of MME, Inc.

Effective January 1, 2015, Modern Manufacturing and Engineering, Inc.’s names Nancy Lien Berndt its President.

Nancy has led MME through ISO9001/AS9100 certification, championed various quality initiatives, strengthened the employee training and awareness program, served as the Production Manager and customer liaison, as well as achieved process improvements in countless areas. Throughout the years, Nancy’s talents have become essential to the progression of MME, Inc. and former President, Hue Lien, is ready to make this change an official one.

Hue will take on a new title – Senior Executive Officer, and will still be involved in strategic business decisions.


MME Adds 12,000 Square Feet to Facility

Completed in the fall of 2014, MME’s latest expansion boasts 12,000 square feet of new facility space. The facility has now grown to a total of 90,000 square feet.

The new space was added to allow for future equipment development and to prepare for customers’ changing needs.

MME Named Finalist in Twin Cities Business Family Business Awards

Minneapolis, MN (November 8, 2013) – Twin Cities Business magazine, in conjunction with Hubler for Business Families,  awarded its Minnesota Family Business Award to five companies (honorees) and five finalists on Thursday night at a ceremony held at Hilton Minneapolis. These businesses “demonstrate how family values, dynamics, idiosyncrasies and traditions can help a business succeed; and how the emotional side of family relationships can help counter the sometimes cold, hard realities faced when making critically important business decisions.”

MME Recognized in Minnesota Business Magazine’s 2013 Manufacturing Awards

Minneapolis, MN (November 8, 2013) – Modern Manufacturing and Engineering, Inc. was recognized by Minnesota Business Magazine as a finalist in its 2013 Manufacturing Awards. MME, Inc. was awarded in the category of Minority-Owned Business, which describes manufacturers that are at least 51 percent minority- or woman-owned and have achieved excellence in manufacturing in Minnesota. Minnesota Business Magazine states, “Whether they specialize in precision grinding machines or leather work boots, the state’s manufacturers distinguish themselves through productivity, innovation, and bold new strategies.”

Cedar Rapids, Iowa (April 27, 2010) – Rockwell Collins named Modern Manufacturing & Engineering, Inc., the 2010 Green Initiative Supplier of the Year at its Annual Suppliers Conference.

The Green Initiative Supplier of the Year award is an acknowledgement of the significant contributions made by a supplier.  Over the past few years, MME has implemented a number of changes to create awareness and sustainability for the environment. It replaced its light bulbs with LED bulbs, installed power savers that make its energy use more efficient, recycled office materials, metals, and coolant, among other improvements.

MME’s values and improvements are well-aligned with Rockwell Collins’ belief that, “taking care of the environment is vital to our future and that doing so benefits our communities and the people who live and work here.”

DETROIT LAKES, MN — Modern Manufacturing and Engineering, Inc. (MME) recently received certificates of recognition for “going green.”  MME teamed up with Total Energy Concepts, Inc., to save energy with the installation of Power Protection and Power Factor Correction units.  These units protect electrical equipment from lighting strikes, dirty power, and poor efficiency (power factor.)  The net result is optimized voltage and current.  They also are one of the very first companies in the Twin Cities to install the new LED replacement bulbs from Philips.

MME is doing their part to improve their bottom line, and improve our environment.  The impact from their carbon footprint will be decreased, which is good for everyone.

Bill Hartman from Total Energy Concepts is excited about their new partnership with MME.  He said “it is a rewarding experience to work with a business who is pro-active in lowering their energy usage while helping the world do some good.”
