Our History
Modern Manufacturing & Engineering, Inc. began as Modern Machine, founded by Clint Larson in 1954. In 1975, Clint’s son Chuck Larson took over the company and, in 1983, employed local machining school student Hue Van Lien.
Hue and his family had moved to Minnesota in 1980 after immigrating to Iowa from Vietnam. Hue worked at MME as a tool crib attendant while finishing school and was promoted to machinist shortly after graduating. On the production line, Hue learned firsthand that quality, consistency and value made the difference between a satisfactory product and a truly outstanding one.
As Hue rose within the company, working his way up to partner and eventual owner, he never lost sight of the importance of quality in all things, from the equipment we use to the relationships we build with our customers. Today, Hue and his daughters lead MME with this dedication to quality at the heart of every project. The MME team’s expertise, lean manufacturing processes, and dedication to quality allows us to understand our partners’ dynamic needs, identify the most successful combination of services, proactively identify areas of cost-savings and value-add, and deliver an end result that exceeds all expectations.
